Hi Sweetheart;
Received a post from thee today and it sure sounded like I feel. Your carpenter friends sure bring back fond memories of a fine officer on the queen. This is getting a bit a head of my story so---
This morn, one of the lads came bounding in and told all that the S.M. rates were open. Now this small character was, to say the least, quite joyous. Immediately I checked with the man, on my status as to receiving next rate. We looked over the time, two year and a foo odd months in present rate; past performances, ok; and then the blow came, a thing called progress tests which were not entered in record. I took the damn thing a year and one-half ago while still on the queen. The signal officer, after much pleading, finally gave me his solemn word that course was entered. Now, now the time I need the damn thing, it isn’t there. This my love is several days of good effort wasted because of shall we say navy efficiency. To sum this up rather shortly, I guess we dont make 1st this semester.
We don’t give a damn tho, ‘cause we can’t stay in the war forever. (Sounds a bit like the Aesop fable, grapes and such) All warm to secure and start the business of dispensing vehicles to unsuspecting civilians.

The best to be heard around here today is “Dear John” letters from your gal. This “Dear John’ concerns the characters gals who marry another while the other is some where west. Tis funny in the sense of man looking though a longglass at one of his buddys being tortured and not being able to do a thing about it. (Muscles Lungren, our local lothario) just played ‘As Time Goes By”, now on ‘I Walk Alone.” You know, the riff-raff doesn’t say much when he plays the sentimental ballads. Sure and it may sound funny, but I do so much long to be with my Sweetie from afar today, but tomorrow I will love my Sweetie from a distance that can be measured and called negligible.
Love Always
Kenny Lee
P.S. In the morning, this chap will cease the morbid spirit.
